i'm in the same boat
the verdict is blown clutch F seal
just for kicks i called the NYC Audi dealer.
$6,700 for a remanufactured tranny.
i asked him if this was normal for a 6 year old A8, and he said, "eh, you know, wear and tear"

Looks like you and your chap are (somewhere) in EU...
...can't make out yer tag.
Reason I ask is, what year //S8 is it? Just curious. Hoping (HOPING) it's older than '01(!!!), more miles, etc. I am, hoping.
Question to the beknownst of you for the unbeknownst (me)... did the early //S8's utilize the same gearbox as our US cars??? Um, hoping NOT.
Hopping into the recent warranty GP is making me feel all tingly right now, it is. Thanks again Senor Mendel.

Yep we are both in the UK, I'm in England but my plate is from Nothern Ireland as its an ageless plate.

I've been working A LOT this year on a property I gutted, now been working for over 3 months on my bathroom at my house and am project manager for four jobs at work.....
