97 trans question....
I am going to look at a 97 A8 that has the following issue- the owner states that after a trans filter and fluid change (don't know if it was flushed), the car won't go into drive or reverse. Now, although I haven't seen the car yet or anything, I assume it means that when the shifter is in D, the car doesn't move.
It sounds to me like he just didn't fill the trans correctly, or completely, and there is no line pressure.
Some questions- if he didn't use the right fluid (non-audi), will it kill the trans to fill it the rest of the way and drive it just long enough to get the car to a shop to correctly flush the trans?
Is there another possibility for why the car stopped moving? He mentioned a MAF issue that put the trans into limp mode, but that that issue was resolved after a MAF swap and code clear.

I too would suspect low fluid. No problem using non-Audi fluid for a short while......
Some on this forum use non-Audi fluid all the time. Does it go into limp mode when you put it in D (all the tranny symbols light up in the dash, PRND...)
