Do you really need a replacement or do you want it fixed?
If you want it tested / fixed, talk to Micro-Tech Automotive in KY (www.micro-tech-auto.com). If you MUST have a replacement, ECUdirect.com had one/some back in January. DO NOT have ECUdirect do a test or repair -- they just ship it to Micro-Tech anyway and mark it up.
NOTE: I'm not endorsing either of these places. I've dealt with them both, there were some hiccups and they were resolved. Problem is that the ECU seems to be hard to come by.

Hi Paul. The ECU became waterlogged. Technician tells me some leaves clogged up the drainage holes where the ECU was mounted. To test if it was my ECU, he installed my ECU in another A8 on premises and and it failed to run so he's pretty sure it's the ECU. He tells me I'll need another wiring harness as well because of the corrosion to the inputs on the part that attaches to the ECU. The car has been at his shop over 3 weeks now due to the difficuty in locating the unit.

Given the amount of money I've put in the car over the last 4 months (over $4000.00 in repairs)
I'm open to repairing it if it makes economic sense. Can't believe the difficulty I've had rtying to keep this car on the road.

Thanks Paul. I will discuss this alternative with the mechanic within the next 3-4 hours. I assume there's not much difference bewteen the 97 vs 98 units?

Paul, just learned that the '97 unit will not work. Located a '98 unit in upstate NY (Thoroughbred Auto Parts). Their price is $650 used. This is a bit of a gamble, but it sure beats $3400 for a new one and $2400 remanufactured. Appreciate your gesture and I'll

Lord knows I wish that would have worked. The tech tried to dry the unit out to no avail. I don't know if he opened the unit, but he did tell me he "tried to dry it out". I located a unit and am praying it works. I really believe my days of A8 ownership are coming to a close. Far too many let downs.
