Default ABS sensor fix presents new problem

Due to the ABS warning light being "ON", checked VAG and got a "rt. ft. sensor" code. Replaced same, light went out, no codes, but now the ABS engages for a 1/2 second everytime I come to a complete stop, right at the last few feet of motion. Didn't do THAT before. What gives? Gee, this A8 is almost as much fun as my urQ..full of mysterious mechanical manifestations !!

Cheers,
Craig

Default It's not located correctly

If having these problems when slowing to a stop, such as less than 5 MPH, it is most likely because the sensor is dirty or not full inserted to the stop. Or possibly that it was inserted too far (hard to do).

I would pull the codes to ensure you have the correct wheel (there should be a stored code), or if you don't have the ross-tech software, just pull the senosr, wipe it off, and reinsert it.

This is exactly the same prolem I've had before with my old 91 200q, and EscapA8 just had it on his A8, we fixed it last weekend. He's had this problem for months (actually on and off for almost a year). An indepedent replaced a sensor, but it still kept coming on. The independent suggested that the car be brought to the dealer.

We pulled the codes, here's what he had:

3 Faults Found:
00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Right (G44)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent

You are probably just getting an intermittent signal.

He pulled each wheel off, pulled the sensor, wiped it down (it had a very small amount of foreign material on the end), reinserted and no problems anymore! I provided moral support.

Cost - $ about an hour of his time.

Default The only tools you'll need are for taking the wheels off.

You can litterally pull the sensor out of its harness like wiggling a cork out of a wine bottle.

I cleaned the sensors and the hole they go into with DW40. Problem gone.

Default Re: It's not located correctly

Problem fixed...I was paranoid about inserting the new sensor too far since the old faulty one had been shoved in and was hitting the ring. Pushed in new one to stop and problem solved. Will recheck after a few miles to make sure no touching going on. Off the subject...wondered why my Duramax turbo diesel's mileage all of a sudden stunk, 63K miles on her..noticed diesel smell...after looking around, saw diesel fuel coming from dipstick, drained crankcase, mostly diesel fuel!!!...figure diesel return line under valve cover broken since engine runs great and no other source of leaks. Since engine is still under warranty, will let Duramax deal with it since I had once before opened the valve covers on their engine to check out a problem and they tried to void repair work needed because of that.

Thanks for feedback...right now all this A8 needs is the timing belt and she'll be set until the next glitch.
