Alignment ?

Alignment ?
Just came back from the local tire emporium (usually pretty relaible) where they told me the vibration I was having at highway speed was due to tire wear rather than a tire out of balance.
We went back to look and sure enough, the inside edge of both fronts is worn smooth for 1/2 to 3/4" and you can feel a "cupped" wear pattern on the adjacent tread block.
I asked if it was due to mis-alignment and they said "Oh, all the german cars do this, they're set toe-in for high speed handling".
I've followed the forum for five years and I don't recall any mention of this problem ... anyone else had this? Should I be having the alignment adjusted more frequently? Look for some other problem? Thanks.

I had that happen when my car was out of alignment.But...
I have a great independant alignment guy who did my last two alignments. No problems like that in 15k miles. Also, I installed Bilsteins and eibachs around the same time so I would assume that has some effect as well.

Severe inside wear would suggest toe out or negative camber.
How many miles on your shocks? Control arms/tie rods in great shape? Any number of those things in different combinations could lead to that type of tire wear.

Not quite 20k miles on the whole car - it's not my daily driver, road trips only. Presumably the suspension parts all in good shape. I thought I was taking pretty good care of it, so this was an unpleasant surprise.
It has some winter miles on it, and roads in New England have had more than the usual frost damage these last couple years ... then again I never hammer across rotten pavement.
