Default Another Question

I'm in the process of gutting the Bose sound system in my S8 much like I did my other car--a 350Z from Nissan.

The Blose in my 7 month old Z was an absolute piece of junk from Bose and I ripped it out and replaced it with what I think is the best system I've ever heard in a car. BTW, my 350Z can be viewed at my web site at http://www.sportzmagazine.com/Z_Home.html. Follow Bob's 350Z Mod and check it out.

Anyway, now I'm upgrading my system in my S8 and there was a post I read when going through the first 30 pages of this forum indicating there could be problems if the stock Bose system was removed or modified.

Does anyone know if I'm going to get into trouble adding this new audio system? BTW, I'm leaving the current system in place and still connected so as to not ruin the aesthetics of the beautiful dash with all the lights illuninated. There will be no speakers connected to the current Bose systems.

BTW, I installed a new Alpine NVD-A121 GPS system to my S8 two months ago; an image of the added GPS can be seen on my 350Z mod site.

All thoughts are welcomed.

Default Don't know if you can use the Bose Amp with other speakers

I do not know if you'll be installing another head unit or not. But the Bose (as you probably know) units require the low input into them, and they have their own amps.

Nice dash mod for your Nav system! I've took the liberty of posting a few of your pics here. Nice! Do you have any more pics of how it is integrated into the dash? Did you do it yourself? How'd you make that thing? Got any other pics with other views, I would love to put them up on audipages.com.

Default Re: Don't know if you can use the Bose Amp with other speakers

Greetings Paul,

I'm stripping everything out. The Bose amp and all the speakers. I was just a bit concerned about something I had read at AudiWorld regarding functions not normally associated with an audio system.

As you can see, I removed the 3 vents at the top of the dash and used two smaller ones. The smaller vents are used for the back seat air so I knew I could get them directly from Audi. The new box was designed to fit the space without messing up the air coming into my car.

I also installed a Sirius satellite radio where the ash tray used to be [moved lighter output to the area under the cellular holder so I can still charge my mobile].

Since I have this affinity for triple digits, I installed and Escort SR7 under the vent left of the steering wheel. The sensors for the SR7 are located in the front grill and over the rear license plate. Just to be sure, I also installed a laser diffuser in the front grill. If I ever become the victim of a "laser attack" the attacker will only read ERROR.

To accomadate my new system, I'll be modifying the rear deck for the placement of my new subwoffer [10" JLAudio]. I'm installing three amps in the trunk under the deck [500/1 JLAudio for subwoffer 300/2 & JLAudio for the MBQuart rear speakers w/tweeter & 300/2 driving into the front door 6 1/2 Focal speakers].

I'm removing the CD changer in the trunk and replacing it with a Kenwood 10 disc/MP3/CD player.

Next, I removed the placement of the Sirius HU and replaced it with a Kenwood KDCX969 head unit. The HU face plate will go where the Sirius face place was so that I don't mess with the beauty of our front dash. All dash lights will illuminate including the Bose unit so as not to mess with the beauty of our cars at night.

I'll be adding an Alpine TV tuner to play in the GPS screen so that I can see post-game coverage of my beloved Broncos when exiting Invesco Field At Mile High. BTW, I have TV capabilies in my Z but only use it where its safe to do so or for the entertainment on my passenger [no I don't look at the screen] Oh yeah, in my Z, I rewired the wire to the emegency brake so I could watch TV and DVD while moving but I am definately observing safe driving. I'll do the same in my S8.

I don't have a lot of photos on the Audi mod because I was concentrating on the 350Z. Most of the Z community know about my magazine but with the new 350Z crowd coming in, I needed to get going and market the mag for all to see. Seems we need sizzle to market new stuff and my new 350Z mod definately sizzles.

When I'm finished I'll post more photos. And BTW, I designed my systems [one-time design engineer] and turned it over to CarToys in Littleton, Colorado.

Regarding my affinity for triple digits. Wide open spaces only and nobody in the car with me.

In conclusion can anybody give me a step-by-step process to add images to posts? Thanks

I had already seen Marty's install; it's beautiful. Since I'm a single guy with two sons older than me, there is no need for me to include back seat entertainment.

But, who knows? I've been known to do stuff with no logical reason.

Lived in Lauderdale and Boca for 28 years and moved to Colorado 11 years ago and have yet had to shower after a shower. Uncontrollable sweating is a thing of the past.

I do miss seeing my Canes in person though.
