It is my understanding that once the car is realeased to the carrier, the dealer is billed for that car-they start paying floor plan on it. They should be able to tell you within 24 hours exactly when the car will arrive. I know with Benz, their carrier can give them a position report so they will generally know when they will receive delivery, barring any truck breakdown etc.
I was amazed how quicklly my car got from Port of Houston to New Jersey.
