Burning ring of fire...
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/81409/audi2.jpg"></center><p>Anyone have DIY disconnect for heated steering wheel, or luck with any other cover up? Mine has one little cigarette burn from the element that smokes when the seat is on.

Just pull the airbag and snip the wires or disconnect them
If you pull the air bag you can find the four wires that feed the heating element, two are for power and two are the thermostat.
If you just cut them you'd be fine.
Mine is a 97 with a multi function wheel....but the red wires are for heating, you can follow them out to the permiter of the wheel:
