Chasing down some gremlins
2001, A8L 171k miles on it. Unknown service and maintenance history as the owner passed away and I bought the car from the family.
Stored codes:
P0300, P0306 - Random misfire, Misfire Cyl 6
P0346 - Camshaft position sensor Bank 2 (drivers or passengers?)
P0102 - MAF (apparently common on these?)
Pending codes:
P0308, P0307 - Cly 8 Misfire, Cyl 7 misfire
Replaced all Spark plugs and ignition coils to begin with just because it usually seems to be these that cause the issue, not it replaced the drivers side camshaft position sensor with a new one, didn't fix the issue but the codes aren't storing just giving flashing CEL now with the above codes.
Such a common thing to read. Im also fighting them. The most recent thing i did that seems to be a huge help is taking apart the PCV system and cleaning. Quite plugged and coked.
Cleaned hoses, the pipes and the flying saucer. Everything seems smoother, no return of misfires yet.
Mine was always P0308, lean on bank 2 (drivers side LHD), and most recently cam over retarded. And evap P0455.
Im really convinced it was the issue.
Headed back up my road (10% grade) did it again, flashing CEL and thunk thunk thunk, like a slip catch feeling...
As soon as i was not under so much load, all gone, no light, all smooth.
I am under half tank, part of me still thinks it might be part of it, but it has happened other times too.
There is always the fuel pump, but I cannot recall if it throws codes while in the throes of death. I think not. Anyone know better?
It seems with my car, I don't mean to hijack This Thread, but every little thing I do seems to make it just a little bit better from changing the valve cover gaskets, to cleaning the PCV, little things.
