Climate control issues
The A/C compressor works and the freon is at the max level.
During the winter, I disconnected the two purple connectors near the master brake cylinder. This eliminated the squealing but it also eliminated my ability to control the heat. I turned the climate control on and off to control the temperature.
For this summer, I reconnected the purple connectors, recharged the freon and checked to see if the A/C compressor was working. Now, I get the squealing if the temp is set to anything except LO, but more importantly I don't get any sort of cold air. I don't use the A/C a lot but it is necessary for defogging the windshield.
Any suggestions? Anyone replace the climate controler?
The other connector runs the heater's coolant pump, which is probably what squeals and can be left unplugged according to some postings here. You won't get heat with the car off, and I wonder if you get less heat at low rpm.
If no air, see what happens if you put it in ECON, then toggle recirculation and wait for the dampers to move. If it works with fresh air but not recirculation, suspect the motor that opens the recirculation flap. Its cover is on the left side of the underhood HVAC air box, near the rear and top, under the piece through which the windshield wiper spindles protrude. I guess these underhood air flap motors sometimes go bad, but in both cases on my car (fresh and recirculation inlet flap motors each acted up once), it was just bad connections needing some Stabilant contact enhancer.

Can you see if the compressor clutch is engaging, i.e. the center part of the pulley is turning, or you hear a clunk as you toggle ECON with the engine on?
That recirculation won't stay engaged (with the key on; it doesn't work in Rest) is weird. Probably worth looking for codes.
