Completely random stalling
The car in question stalls randomly. It also will have a rough idle occasionally. The rough idle does not seem instrumental in the stalling because it does not always idle roughly before it stalls. It doesn't seem to matter if the car is warm or cold, although, it does seem to be a little more frequent on hot days especially if the AC is on. I removed the IAC valve and cleaned it up. It was pretty gunky. I also just finished putting in a rebuilt transsmision last week (that was a job). It did it before and it still does it now, so the TC valve seems out. Could it be an air/fuel leak? I do seem to smell fuel occasionally. Or is it the IAC. I couldn't test it when I pulled it. I don't have a variable power supply. Or could it be the MAF? Any help is much appreciated!

Spray plentiful carburetor cleaner to little holes and butterfly.

As I understand,
At idle,
the butterfly is closed, very little air going through the intake.
fuel injection air sensor will sense a littl flow of air and inject little gas accordingly.
If your car run smooth at high speed, then MAF is still good.
Check again all the black hoses around the throttle body and vacuum diaphrams around it for leaks or functionality.
It must be very easy to fix. Make sure all the clamps on the air ducts are tight.
This is how I fixed idle/stall problems many years ago on a my 190E

Check the three, larger breather hoses that connect to your valve covers. These are common failures (oil eats away at the rubber hoses) in the D2s and can be replaced with relatively easily. Completely fixed my problem.
