Engine conversion options
It's a very comfortable and enjoyable car to drive, the only real drawback is that the car is heavily underpowered which is very noticable when trying to build speed. I was thinking at some point it would be fun and interesting to tuen this into something a bit unique by swapping the powerplant with something with a bit more poke. Again the criteria would be to try and keep the project as cheap as possible. I was looking at the first generation Porsche Cayenne, relatitvely cheap to buy the whole car which would give the wiring, ecu and anything else needed for the conversion.
I did do a search but couldn't find any info on what conversions people have carried out. Anyone know of any that have been done?
It makes a lot more sense to buy the car you want. Either save your money for a decent one or perhaps buy a fix-up. In the UK you might do well to find something getting scrapped for rusty subframes and whatnot and swap on parts from a wreck in Spain.
Maybe keep an eye on the Auto****e forum. If you are a good enough wrench to consider a drivetrain swap you could manage to get a Range Rover or V8 BMW with a bad engine going again.
