but going up any sort of hill ie driveway or such. bad idea. Plus I think that when driving spirited in snow causes the car to want to dive.
I say if its 4 wheel drive/quattro and your sliding point it where you want to go and goose it.
I was estatic that my 2000 had everything BUT parktronic and ESP. exactly what I was looking for (except for it doesnt have the alcantara headliner

Slaloming on packed snow is much more immediate than with ESP turned off. ESP offers a kind of control not available unless you retrofit your car with four brake pedals.
My equipment priorities for driving here where it melts and refreezes into smooth ice fairly often are:
good studded tires > ESP > AWD.
These would be reordered if a foot of snow were the regular challenge and the slick hard surfaces were rare.
(As far as the debate over studded tires goes, check out the recent Finnish studies which still find them to save more injury and property damage than they cost in road damage.)
