Fan problem
The fan to the heater/climate control is dead!!
2 weeks ago same happened - however, it turned out to work as normal the day after.... The display work all as normal, all fuses are ok, and after it suddenly became dead (for 2nd time), e'thing has been as normal. Visited the dealer tonight, and they'll have a look on it the day after tomorrow. Although my car is a '95, I'm of the opinion that the fan should live for longer!! It's getting cold in Norway now, and I really look forward having it up running again!
Have searched the Forum, but nothing found. Anyone experienced same fan problem??

I had a similar problem but with the A/C in the summer. I tried to get the thing started while driving. Switched it off and then on, but nothing. Then I thought of my computer experience. If nothing else works shut the system down and start it up again. I stoped the car. Shut down the engine, Waited a minute and then started it up again. It worked fine! I guess you might be having a software glitch. Could be a corrupted file in the controller or part of the harware which sends messages to the computer. Ask them to run a complete diagnostics. If they find nothing wrong it could be a loose wire somewhere.
Good luck - it is also getting cold in Canada but at least my heater works fine.

Thanks! Have tried stop&start a couple of times, but will give it a new try tomorrow! Maybe I have been too impatience....?!
Reading that you experienced problems starting the fan while driving, I do believe I have stopped the thing with the engine running... Cannot u'stand this should cause the failure, but who knows?!
Will ask for a full diagnostics - hopefully software is ok...!

When I first bought my 97 A8 I had similar intermitant problems. It turned out to be the ignition switch. When I start the car, the key in the ignition dosen't alway "click" back after starting. Now, after I start the car I turn the key back, counterclockwise about 1/8" and everything will work fine.
