I took your advice and did a litle bit of investigating before I started the oil cooler removal. Turned out to be the oil cooler, coolant pipe after all though, but I felt better tearing into it knowing that for sure. The job went pretty smoothly once I figured out where the 5th bolt was. Total time was about 10 hrs, which included putting the core support, sorry "lock carrier" into and out of service position. The aluminum coolant pipe I bought from fusilier fit perfectly and saved me a ton vs. what the dealer wanted for the plastic part.
Thanks
Alex

Alex,
Congratulations, what year is your A6? Did you take any pictures in the process? I may have to do one for my father 98 A6 (it was my lease return). It only has 90k miles, but it may leak anytime.
Thanks,
Louis

I have a leak also, 98'Quatro. It's kind of wierd. It seems as if it is coming from the plastic overflow tank, were the upper hose connects to the plastic tank. Is there suppost to be a lot of pressure in that tank? It just seems as if the "nipple" has a small crack and is leaking a small amount, but enough to have to top it off every 2 weeks.

As I understand Audi's cooling system is a closed system. There should not be any leaks anywhere and yes, the pressure is high when the engine is hot and immobiled. I think it's time for the new expansion tank, don't wait for it to burst one day on no man's land.

Check the leaks and if it's the oil cooler, then you can go here for reference

I don't know what happened, but I heard a lot about these virus on the link. I think it's the re-directing to the correct page of the website. Anyhow, I'm rewriting the procedure here

When I have time I'll finish it up.

If it's the cooler leak, it should be from this broken pipe. The leaks will sip through the passenger side, behind the alternator down to the oil pan.
