Gearbox Code

How do i find the gearbox code for my 2001 S8? The label in boot has been damaged and I cant change the transmission code in VAG COM as it wants the gearbox code to log in to change the coding. It must be in the ecu somewhere so why cant I access it?

gearbox code

If you turn your steering wheel to one side and peek through the drivers side wheel well at the gearbox you should be able to see the label that's on the gearbox. There's all the codes you need. It's a green label.

Agree that the first stop should be to look at the trans label itself. IIRC it's an FUN unit, but I wouldn't take that to the bank.

No, the FUN is a desirable A8 transmission from 2002 or 2003. The facelift S8 uses an FBG and nothing interchanges.
