Instead of, unfortunately.
Audi is introducing a new iPod interface, but I'm pretty sure it won't work with our cars.
What I like about the Phatbox: it's invisible and works with the steering wheel buttons.
What I don't like: the head unit won't display song names; only track numbers.

2nd the Phatbox recommendation.
I have 1200+ songs loaded up to start and still have a ton of disk space left. Need to load up some more this weekend. Agree that the lack of song names is a bit of a drag, but the voice announce feature for artist, album, etc., is better than I thought it would be. Love the Phatbox!
