Default Odd Electrical Problems...

Since I bought my 01 A8L a few months ago I have had the following odd electrical problems.

- A few weeks after I got the car the rear sunshade button wouldn't work once. I shut off the car and turned it back on and it worked. A month later it wouldn't work again and even after restarting the car it wouldn't work. I went to work and a few hours later the rear sunshade button worked.

- Yesterday my passenger vanity light was very dim. Today it's fine.

- Yesterday my window lock button light was flickering. Today it's fine.

Strange... Should I worry?

Mine does the same. The sunshade doesn't work if the car is on the sun too long. It always opens and closes in the early morning.

Default What worked normally at the same time that other lights were dim or flickering?

For example, did you see whether the driver's vanity mirror light worked normally when the passenger's was dim? Were the other power window switches on the driver's door lighted normally when the window lock switch flickered?

And did those two problems only ever happen together?

Thanks,

Tom

Default Yes, look at the TSB...

The sunshade and passenger, but not driver, vanity mirror light share a wire between the B104 in-harness ground connection to the 43 chassis ground connection referenced in a 1998 TSB (URL below). Thanks to skiracer for remembering the TSB and PaulW for scanning it. Though the TSB is for 1997-1999 model years, it shows where ground point 43 is, and how to inspect and reassemble the connections. You should disconnect the battery before doing the service.

Some rear exterior lights use this ground wire, so if it has a bad connection, you may have more problems when using headlights or brakelights. Using the rear seat adjusters, rear seat heaters, or the right rear power window would also put current through the B104-to-43 ground wire.

Many more strange things could happen if other wires connected at ground point 43 develop bad connections.

I can't see anything other than the light itself or local wiring which would make the window lock button flicker while the other windows buttons remain normal.
