remote key question

i just lost our one and only key remote, and found out quickly that the stealer wants $200+ for the remote, plus to cut it, plus to program it.

searching on ebay i see a lot for sale. how do i find out for which frequency/type my car, a 2000 A8, is compatible? thanks much
