Default replacement CAT

I have one bad CAT on the new car, so I ordered one online after doing some research on DEC aftermarket units which got good reviews.

Here's what I got - doesn't look anything like the OEM shape/size. It's the correct application number on the package but it could be the wrong one packged up. I need to wait a couple of hours to call CA and verify with DEC whether THEY think this is a direct replacement. Looks way too small to me...

Has anyone else used an aftermarket CAT before ?

Bob,

I will be very interested in your outcome because I also considered DEC. It didn't seem like it was the "Direct Fit" they claimed. I ended up with Smith Brother rebuilding both of mine for $525. The downside is that I had to have them taken off and sent in. I was without my car for about a week. Let us know how the DEC ones work out because I may need one for my wife's A6 2.7T.

Default I'm really torn now...

I haven't even tried to "fit" it yet and might be perfect. It looks like it's pretty well made too. I'm just going by what the cat itself looks like.

I tracked down DEC and basically got "it should work". I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling that I was looking for. They also said if there's a problem it's covered under warranty. It's the hassle part I don't want to go through.

A new one is $900 but so if it worked ok, I wouldn't even care if it cost me a few HP. It's only my wife's car

Any exhaust experts please chime in ! I guess I should take some measurements, maybe the total # square inches is close and it's the shape that's throwing me off.

Default It's a typical aftermarket universal CAT

The quality between that one and the factory one is in the difference in price. Since our cars are OBDII, most states emissions inpections just check fault codes so it might not be a problem.

We stopped installing those type of Cats at our shop because they really did not stop NOX emissions on older cars that had to go through the dyno. They typically only last a couple of years only too.

Default yeah, I'm gonna send this one back. The guys at DEC were NO help so take them off the list

I just found a place in Mass that will take mine and prototype it for around $200.

They carry the driver side for our cars but not the pass side. It's the same size pipe and while the cat is not an exact match it's a lot closer.

The DEC pipe was 1/2" narrower and the CAT was almost half the volume according to my rough measurements. Should have it back late next week.

Default Beating this topic to death but here's what the driver side CAT looks like from - http://www.davico

they're going to take my old one and make the pass side. Same size pipe, CAT looks a lot more like stock.

If this works out ok, they'll be a good source for both sides. A leap of faith but not many options out there vs. OEM (at least new).

Good luck, I would make sure it is a 4 way catalyst.

Hi all, my cat died just after buying my car and there was no way on earth i was going to pay dealer prices of 600 UK pounds for a new one.... after loads of looking around on the net i found this place, i ordered one, it fitted perfectly and made no diff at all to the way the car drives / performs etc..

What i would say is that it doesn't quite look like the original shape, but hey who cares,it was nearly half the price!!! , it fits and it works. Link below is for the place in the UK, maybe they would ship worldwide, just contact them and ask )

http://www.bmcatalysts.co.uk/index.html</a
