Default Speaker problems?

My driver side front door speakers (main and tweeter) quit on me after a long drive tonight. The main speaker went dead and the tweeter was extremely faint. If I turned off the radio and turned it back on there was a faint pop from the tweeter. Early in the drive my nephew heard a song he liked and cranked it all the way up, but only for a second or two before I turned it down, and later the speakers quit. I assumed they were blown. I went out to the garage about a half an hour later and now they are working fine. I do tend to listen to music at elevated levels but never into distortion. My question is: is there a built in "circuit breaker" in the door or in the amp that may have tripped and caused the speakers to die and has anybody else had this problem? Sorry about the long post but I wanted to include all the detail.

A circuit breaker in the amp is a distinct possibility, but I have no firsthand knowledge of one.

Default That would be my guess too

There is nothing in the wiring diagrams suggesting an external breaker. I know a 4 channel car amp made by Bose I had maybe 10 years ago had self-resetting thermal breakers to protect the cheezy output stage (or maybe the cheezy drivers, or both).
