Default Wheels question

Okay, I've read through many prior posts, but I have some confusion over wheel options. Bear with me if this is elementary. I have a 2001 A8L with the pie pan wheels. The tires are 245/45/18. I understand the same size tires are on the S8, but every S8 I've seen seems to have a wider tire and stance than my car. Why is it? Is the S8 stock tire wider? What is the difference in offset (or in other words, what are the standard offsets for the A8L and S8?)? Can I go to a 19x9 with offset 35mm on the A8L without major problems?

Thanks in advance.

Default The 8" S8 and A8L wheels are both ET48, ...

I believe the S8's apparent wider stance is only an illusion resulting from from the 0.8" lower suspension.

A 19x9 ET35 will be fine on the A8L, you'll be 4 mm further out than this 20x9 ET39 wheel with a 255/35-20 tire.

Thanks for the both the responses. Seems strange though that the S8 and A8L are the same. Maybe I need to look closer at the Stasis/H&R/Eibach question if I want the aggressive look of the S8. I personally, like the look of the pie pan wheels, but would like the car to have that aggressive stance of the S8.

Cheers.

Default With my S8 parked next to Paul's A8 ...

The same thing happens, except his A8 looks more aggressive, but it's almost another 1" lower than the S8. The H&R setup of Paul's car is adjusted so low that he even has problems getting a jack under the front :-)

that's very nice looking--those are the stock 2002 wheels right? I've read a lot of the back and forth on the H&R for the base car. How are they on the L in terms of the ride/performance equation if anyone knows?

TIA

Default They will be harsher than stock

You don't go through large bumps/potholes anymore...you drive around them.

If you're in the south, I don't think that would be a problem, but if you are the north, I would run all seasons in the winter for sure.

Your car will handle much, much better. But if you're looking for creature comfort ride....don't do it....I would never go back to anything but H&R's for my car though.

Default Re: They will be harsher than stock

Is the harshness from the shocks or springs? I've had various cars with adjustable shocks and I found that the shock settings were key to the feel of the car. In fact, my old Nissan 300x Turbo would go from bone jarring to floaty depending on the settings. I would hit my head on the T-tip whenever I went over a frost-joint on the freeway in sport mode (Ouch!). I would like to retain some semblance of comfort in the car, as 90% of the driving is mundane commute and only 10% is aggressive. Perhaps the Hoenhester suspension or Stasis if they ever develop one? any ideas?

TIA

Default You might want to look into the S8 stock coils, and shocks if its possible with an L

Ask KevinR! He just did the swap a few weeks ago.
