It Worked!!
About a month ago, I posted a question re: whether A4 mirrors could work on the A8, specifically my 98. I bought them from Dubstop International on eBay (here is a link to a current auction):

They did not have the connectors for auto dimming, but the way they are tinted, there was no glare or issue with high beams. They also do not have the rubber trim around the edges. They *do* have the heating connectors. Most important of all, they snapped in perfectly!
On the boxes they came in, they were listed as Audi A3 (96-)/A4 (95-) part numbers 6455500 (left, full-sized mirror) and 6452500 (right, smaller mirror). Text in parens is mine, not on the boxes. $69.00 door-to-door, almost less than half the cost of one mirror from the stealer.
