Default A8 D3 04. MMI and NAV update...

Hello, MY car has 0600 MMI version . I ordered 4610 which cost me $60 from dealer, Is it ok to jump from 0600 to 4610. Also my Navigation software is Version 4. Would that interfere with MMI update 4610. Should i update my Nav first atleast to version 5 and than try updating my mmi software to 4610... I read couple threads some says update nav first to version 5 or later than update mmi, some says it doesn't matter. Please Help...

You can definitely go from 0600 to 4610 but follow the TSB for the update. I do think with 4610, you have to have at least NAV disk 5 for the NAV to work. I already had NAV disk 5 installed when I updated my old )5 D3.

Thanks for the reply TsHong. I need to find Nav 5, lets see if dealer could get me.

Nav 5 is 2005 Nav Disk. Any NAV disk 2005 or later will work. The dealer will not have the NAV 5 disk anymore. You can order a 15/16 disk or find a used one on ebay. Just be careful of copied or burned disks. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Not sure of how quick you need it. I need to do some spring cleaning with parts I need to sell. A 2008 NAV disk is one of them.

Do not ever jump from 0600! It never hurts to do a google search: Audi Resource - Firmware versions

Audi MMI that are 2750 or below have to be updated to 3360 then 4610.

The second image is from the link above. If you jump there is a risk of bricking who knows how many modules. And I think for the navigation to work you need a version 5 disk. Im not sure if it is needed to run the MMI in general. But hopefully you haven't tired to update yet.

I think you have to update to 3310 first, but I'm not sure.

You need Nav 5 or higher as already stated for any MMI version of 3360 or higher. You can often find legit. Nav disks that may be a few versions old on EBay for a lot less than the current version--from other people trading up. Look at seller history for basically people selling just one and then other random personal stuff, as opposed to being in the "business" of disks--a clue they may be variously warm to the touch or burned (as in fake/counterfeit) copies.

For MMI itself, if you read the instructions carefully you will end up concluding you should pass through 3360. That is no longer required like it used to be to avoid a meltdown, but given the instructions say that, it is the safer path. Others though have gone straight to 4610 and seem successful; 4610 also has a clean up disk you run to clean up only version code spaghetti.

Also, know that you are likely to lose your battery meter display along the way and need a VCDS to reenable it. There are some very low version occasional hiccups for which there are patch disks, but again if you step through 3360 on way to 4610 you may be able to minimize those outlier cases too.

Except for the note a few of us advised about passing through 3360 as a prerequisite for low version MMI's, this blanket statement is no longer really true. It was back with the badly flawed 4140 update with the trap door version gotcha that this sequential updating was the way to go, but Audi basically deep fixed that version with 4610.

OHHHHHH! I still followed the TSB and instructions just in case. It is a $30 insurance policy vs. a $1,130.82, plus shipping and coding (>$150), expenditure. And thats only assuming it will affect the MMI Control Module.

MP4 What is the use of the version 5 navigation DVD? Say if you updated to 4610, will the whole MMI not work, or just the navigation system? We may have went over this before but I am still unsure.

I went directly from 1170 to 4610 in one shot. I guess that doesn't mean everyone can do it. The clean up disk is for blue tooth only. MY 04 does not have blue tooth so you can run the upgrade disk only.
