Default A8 W12 or S8

Hello,
I'm an RS4 owner with small kids. I might have to go with a bigger ride soon. Which would you get - an A8 W12 or an S8?

Default Maybe you need an SUV or a stationwagon

My circumstances are pretty similar, so let me share my experience with you.

I bought an A8 a couple of months ago and must admit that I absolutely love it.

However most likely I will change it soon for a large SUV (Volkswagen Touareg 5.0 V10 TDI most likely, but it might be an Audi Q7 or something else) to have enough space for the kids, dogs and gear.

I wish they built an A8 stationwagon...

Default Re: 2nd.

I just picked up my first audi, an S8 last week. I ordered the car without ever seeing the swb in person and never having seen the color (daytona grey). I was very pleasantly surprised to find there is plenty of back seat room, and the color is better than i could have imagined. At any rate I have my first child on the way, and I thought this car would be a happy medium between a fun to drive sporty car, and a family sedan. I also have a w12, and in terms of performance, the s8 is way ahead. The s8 handles much better and feels tighter, it also seems quicker. The w12 will have almost a half a foot more leg room, and comes with the tv sets in the headrest, which I imagine will keep your children busy on longer rides. Either way you will probably be happy with your choice, if you like to drive aggressively, the s8 would be my choice, if you are usually with your family, and want a big cruiser then the w12 would be the choice. New the w12 is a good deal more expensive. I think that on the second hand market as the two cars age, there values slide closer together. This is of course just one mans opinion.
Thank you to this forum for all the information I have had access to. it is a great resource and we are lucky to have it.
Best Regards, Carl

Default Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Puch) can help

they make custom vehicles all the time. They could make a D3 Avant as long as you don't mind paying them a few Euros.

I have both a stationwagon (allroad) and A8L - both are great with the kid

Default Depends on how long you plan to keep the car

I've got 3 kids in elementary school and the A8L is more space than they need.

I'd go for the S8 if you just plan to keep the car through their Junior High years. Once they get to High School age, the extra space will probably be warranted.

Default Re: A8 W12 or S8

Love the S8, but my kids are in college. The sport seats may not accomodate child seats as well as the A8. To me, that would be the major difference assuming the A8 W12 has the more traditional A8 seats.

Default I love my W12.... the extra room is great for the kids ( I've got two under 4)

I came from an RS6 and miss a bit of the raw power, but the refinement and interior are amazing. With a few "tweaks" like S8 saybars and Vag'com'ed suspension the hanlding can be moved much closer to the S8 level.

addtionally the W12's take a HUGE initial depreciation hit.... you can easily pick up a low mileage CPO 06' for less then half of MSRP....
