AC Problem

Some days my AC runs fine, other days my AC doesn't turn on even though the control is set to low. I was told that there is carbon build up on the ac fans. I got my took off the air filter, black plastic cover. I can now see the fans spinning. Anyone know how to turn these fans off? I have the solar sun roof option and they are constantly spinning.

Open the sun roof

to turn off the solar panel driven fan IIRC, at least from my A6 with it.

Thank you that worked.

The germans went screw with how many screws they have just holding the covers on. 14 screws and counting. I have to go buy a T10 star magnetic screwdriver there are some screws way in there.

Anyone have an updated procedure from the previous version?

I can't seem to find what I posted from this past winter, but it was only a few pictures as I used the Bentley manual I bought for the procedure. Here is a good photo story on a W-12 model but the procedure is the same for a V8.

I have 16 screws off of the cover. There are four in the back screwed into the wall between the engine and cabin. I was able to reach two, but the other two are in such a difficult position. I think I can get one of them off but I doubt I can get it back in. The other one I have my doubts about even reaching it. It looks like I will have to remove the windshield washer drive assembly to get to these bolts.

Did anyone have to do this job before?

I ran into a mechanic on the street and explained what the behavior of my Audi. The fan sometimes comes on sometimes doesn't. His opinion is that it's an electrical problem. He said there was (I forget) some distributor behind the glove box that connects with this. He thinks that if it is not this that it is another distributor elsewhere. I also forget where.
