Default Audi Music Interface-Idiot Proof-Retrofit Installation

2007 D3 A8
It took me two hours to:
Remove the CD-changer (with tools supplied)
Loosen six screws to remove and lower the glove compartment
Rearrange the fibre optic cables (instructions are clear and easy to follow)
Power the CD and new AMI (with cable supplied)
Secure the glove box and
Refit the AMI (to the right) and CD-changer.
The Radio, CD and AMI are linked in series (and use fibre optic technology)
As the software was up to date, coding the vehicle to recognize the Music Interface was not necessary.
Audi Music Interface Part Numbers
4EO 057 785F unit (includes comprehensive manual)
4FO 051 592A fibre optic cable / power cable
4FO 051 510K connection between iPod and unit
Possible pitfalls
Glove compartment (in the A8) is secured with SIX screws.
Cables are easily damaged and should not be bent.
Vehicle with passenger side key operated front knee airbag; follow instructions carefully.

Really no need to drop the glove box. I did the whole thing through the openings for the CD Changer and the AMI. Easy job.

Default That's great, but...

Where can I get one (audiusaparts.com doesn't recognise that part #) and what do I do with the DVD player that's to the right of the CD changer in the glove box at the moment?

If you have 2 players, that's the confirmation of what Kufatec said.
Been searching for that for eons to prove the ultra-rare setup was possible and existed.

Just take one of them out and replace with AMI.
With two players you won't need power/fibre cables, just the unit.

Two hours..? I guess if you dropped the glove box. Took me a whole 5 minutes and that's me being very careful. (without dropping glove box)

You can skip the purchase of the fiber optic cable all together if you don't want to use your cd changer. Just swap your cd changer cables into your AMI and let the cd changer just sit in the glove box dead. When you need to do updates just switch back. All in all this method takes about 5 minutes to complete with radio keys.

For a guy that doesn't have vag-com, doesn't have basic troubleshooting skills and hasn't done "anything" of significance (sorry, bulbs don't count), you're first one to break 'em off about:

1) Doing preventative maintenance (see thread below)

2) Pointing out "how long" it takes to do something (see this thread)

3) Calling out how someone got "ripped off" and basically calling them an idiot (see many threads)

Go back and re-read all of your posts in the past six months. Most will fit in one or more categories above.

If you can understand the meaning of the post it was me wondering why it took so long and asking if it was because of the glove box drop. Don't come ripping at me as I do help on these forums and don't just go with the norm of things as some do. If you are to "look up" my 'useless posts' you'll see I infact do have VCDS and was the one who solved the convenience open. When looking trough there you'd also understand I'm all for prevent maintainence when the cost warrants the value of the job and time taken. So please feel free to think twice before you come swinging without all the info.

Back on thread topic.
