Default cold start sputter problem

This AM starting the car took an extra second or two, enough that i noticed it but since it started i went on with the day but after work today the car didn't start and after trying multiple times i disconnected the negative terminal and connected it back after 5 min and it started on second attempt. here is what it sounds like

Video is on a6 but i am having the same issue with D3 A8. Skip the video to 45 seconds please and watch it for the next 10 to 15 seconds

i have browsed through form and looked at potential causes ranging from the fuel filter, fuel pump but unable to convince myself that that is the root cause. I had similar issues with my Jeep and in that case root cause was Crankshaft position sensor but when i run the VAG it does not throw 1340 error code. The three error codes i do get are listed below. Any and all recommendations and guidance is greatly appreciated.

17579 - Angle Sensor 2 for Throttle Actuator (G188) Implausible Signal
01826 - Sensor for Steering Angle (G85); Supply Voltage Terminal 30
000 - - - Intermittent
18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30
01314 - Engine Control Module

I don't see anything in those codes that give good guidance. Are you sure those are with a licensed VCDS cable though? That is, I don't even get what a code simply saying "Engine Control Module" would be. (I just go by what text people list w/ codes and don't have any #'s memorized).

Meantime, quite a few posts from folks over the years saying their crank sensor did not throw any codes. Some do, others don't. Same scenario w/ fuel pumps. You also don't mention year (port vs. FSI) so not sure whether you also have an FSI HPFP.

I was trying to keep the post short and therefore removed a lot of stuff from the scan result but just now did another scan and the

That does sound like my MAF was bad before. Terminal 30 - Make sure the battery is GOOD and fully charged. I would clean the throttle and check the wiring there. I would take the MAF to clean also...

so this happened twice today, and on both occasions car wouldn't start but as soon as i disconnect negative terminal, wait about 2 to 5 min & connect it back up the car starts right up. Is it safe to say that it can't be fuel pump and could be starter motor?

Default Paging Mister Bally...

Mister Bally might be your best response if he happens to check in. IIRC he had to deal w/ D3 starter? They rarely go out so not a lot of posts about them.

Try unplugging the MAF, see if that makes a difference. Without the MAF the ECU defaults to base setting that should work and at least keep the engine running.

If no joy there, then my focus would be on the error you have for throttle position. Try going through the throttle re-alignment process. If the throttle plate is not in the correct position, then the air/fuel mix will be all over the place and it won't run. You won't get a lean error because at startup the ECU is in open loop so isn't monitoring mixture.

Performed Throttle re-alignment, cleared all codes, drove around for about 20 min & performed a fresh scan and the error codes listed below came up. I am planning to buy the speed sensor (part#077905381J) tomorrow AM and if anyone has any recommendations on 'how to' or location for the speed sensor, let me know. i look through Audi parts store diagram while searching for the 'Mfg#' but still a bit uncertain on it's exact location.

Glad that helped and you're now back on the road and it's now thrown an engine speed sensor error. Replacement is a diy job but a bit of a pain and quite fiddly. Basically it's accessed from the driver side wheel well once you get the fender liner and a heat shield out of the way. There's a few "how to's" on here if you search.

Looks like you have a bad battery too and need to replace it. A8's don't play nice with a bad battery and throw all sorts of random electrical errors that can lead you on a real wild goose chase.

i think the location has changed for D3, can someone help me confirm this. OEM Part# is ' 077905381J' the power cable appears to be going down instead of up based on diagram i look at online @ audiparts store @ https://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/sh...=0&modelYear=0 '#24'
