Electronic Stabilization Program
Hello all,
My 2004 A8 has been throwing the esp light up on the dash within 10 to 20 mins of driving daily. Has anyone else had this problem?
also I notice that on cold mornings my front shocks sound like old mattress springs for the first few mins of driving any ideas?

I had a problem with my stabilizer light also. Would reset itself when restart car but would come on after awhile. Dealer found the switch on brake pedal was bad,$120.00 to fix.
My front end also make a rubber crunch noise when its below freezing.

I guess I am trying to figure out why we should have to let our 80K cars have to warm up in the cold so that they dont sound like old bed springs...wouldnt trade it for the world though

yeah, but what's causing the squishy sound?
I didn't notice it at all last winter. I have since put about 20k on the car, so it's at about 52k. I don't notice that it goes away completely after warm-up. It's not as loud, but it's still there.
I'm having the dealer look at it this week. I'll let you know what they tell me.

Disappointingly, the dealer didn't find anything wrong, despite checking it out twice. I still notice it.
Let me know if anyone else's dealer is more adept at finding the problem.

Squishy suspension follow up - finally fixed
I had to take my car in for service and finally had the time to ride with the mechanic in my car. He did hear the sound when I pointed it out and diagnosed the problem as front upper guide links. He lubed them, but the sound remained. He then pulled them and found them to be split and worn. They were replaced under warranty. Part numbers were: 4E0-407-505-B through 4E0-407-510-B. I hope this helps. It's nice to be rid of the sound.
