Default Fault Code for Level Control System

I am having problems as well with my air suspension. 06 model with 132k miles. Will not go into comfort or automatic mode. I have a solid green suspension light lit on the dash that comes and goes intermittently. Can anyone help me with a diagnosis for the following Fault Code that I pulled with VagCom-

01577- Turn off due to over temp, 001 Upper limit exceeded - Intermittent

Does this mean that I need to replace the struts due to a leak there. Sounds like compressor may be kicking off after trying to inflate struts with leak.

Will take my car to an indy audi mechanic, but wanted as much info before hand.

Thanks for any help/ advice that anyone can provide.

It does sound like the same problem with aTOMic, something about the temperature also. Wow, it does look like none of the car can go pass 135k without having problem with Air suspension. Mine is 77k already.

Good luck and please post the findings,

Louis

Yay someone who posts with the VCDS scan info! (sometimes I neglect to do so as well, I know...)
Did you clear codes and try again? Mine has been doing the intermittent green light for a year now and just got bad enough to demand my full attention.
Clear the codes in the level control module in VCDS and see if it stays like that, if you're lucky you have a year to shop for a new compressor and to learn from my mistakes!

I am trying to determine if the pump actually gets hot or if the thermistor just fails. Mine does not feel very warm when it reports high temps. On the Allroads, the sensor was a separate item, and on Arnott's site the replacement comp for our cars shows an external, separate allroad-style sensor. Gotta call them...

the silver thing mounted to the cylinder head on the left of the white label is the G290 temp sensor in question.
(edit I had the wrong # there, it is G290)

From Arnott's site

HTH,
Tom

BTW I sure could use some help finding the temp sensor as a separate part!(looking at allroad parts) if it's $25 I may see if it'll solve our problems! Jim Ellis Audi's maddening system calls the compressor "air supply" compressor, it is also called "ride control" and "Air pump" in various other official places

I took the car to my mechanic today and first thing we did was clear the faults several times. After the suspension came back to life one final time, it then totally crapped out and I got the dreaded blinking orange and green suspension light on dash and the car went totally flat.

To make a long story short, I ordered two rebuilt front struts and a new compressor for about $1,700.00 total and will install those soon. Probably going to drop $2,500 by time labor is included. I plan on keeping the car so in my mind its cheaper to fix then buying another ride. Other than the suspension, I've had no other problems with car.

At least it died on the operating room table, I saved a towing fee!

Default If the thermistor registered wrong the the system shuts down

Well, I'm glad my 06 only has 77k miles, hopefully I won't see this until the same mileage or so. But if it's my case, I would change the temperature sensor first, because in the control system, the sensor turns on/off the system, the system means the pump before anything else. If the whole car went flat, the chances for both of the struts are bad is too coincidental, but the cause for both of them to go flat is more likely the culprit, the system.

I'm sure you'll have a good system now. Please post pictures of the flat and the fix please.

Cheers,

Louis

BTW Bill, can I have your old struts and compressor? I'll send someone by to pick them up... Seriously, I'd love to get my hands on the compressor,to try to get the sensor out.

Also, Louis, the darn temp sensor is built into the compressor on D3s so you can't just replace that (although I am trying to see if it's feasible). I found only one source and it's 90 Euros for the sensor. Crazy.

Default Thermistor is thermistor - 2 wires period.

TOM,
just measure the resistance - thermistors come in all sizes - different by resistance, all it does is increase resistance when temperature rises - the system measure the resistance and calculate the temperature. NO rocket science stuff, even with AUDI. Remove the wire, put a thermistor out side dangling between the wires, you'll get it working.

Cheers,

Louis

Although very expensive, That is pretty good pricing. Where are the parts sourced through?
List price on new factory shocks are $1800 each. I found a new Audi compressor for $1300.
