GPS Issues
I drove my A8 to Palm Springs and back (I live in West Michigan). On the way back I kept getting the message "please check the navigation dvd". I came home the southern route, Arizona, new Mexico, Oklahoma then angled up thru Missouri and Illinois. Somewhere in Missouri the message stopped and the navigation worked again. I cleaned the disc when I first got the message, but that did not help. I'm wondering if it was having issues reading a section of the disc. Anyone else have experience with this issue?

Your navigation DVD player either has a clouded/dusty/dirty lens (which you can take open it up and clean with alcohol and a swab) or something is starting to fail with the electroncs.
My was intermittent for a few months with the exact same message you have. Cleaning did not help me. Then it failed completely. I let it go unused for a year or two since I am old and know how to use paper maps and road atlases.
Then one day, fellow AW poster Brozee let me know about someone parting out an A8 locally. I bought a used player from that car for $125.00 cash. It has worked flawlessly ever since.
That sounds like a fun trip.Similar to the one I took this past Summer with my son in my A8.

I suspect you are right about the unit going out. I purchased a new disc the years ago, so it's doubtful it is bad. I'll try cleaning the lens, but I suspect it's time to look for a used unit.
It was a nice drive and one I'll be making many times as my wife and I purchased a winter home in Palm Springs.
