I have a friend in Chicago who did not put a plate on the front of his 911. He actually found a ticket on his car when he returned to it in a downtown parking garage. He backed into the space.
Chicago Police actually patrol the parking garages and get out to check if the car is registered in Illinois and ticket violators. Nice......

Rookie cops are a PITA.
My daughter got ticketed for an illegal plate frame. It covered part of the word "Texas". She went to court. The judge took one look at the ticket and said "Dismissed. You are free to go". The cop was there and wound up with egg on his face.
Both of my A8s have no front plate. Never had a problem despite the fact that Texas has a front plate law. My previous cars also had no front plate. It was never an issue.
