Do you mean under the Intake manifold by under the block?
I thought there was only two knock sensors on a 2003 A8 but could be wrong.
EDIT Maybe two long and two short Black or Brown??
I still have my 2004 D3 info in the dealer website and it only shows 2 knock sensors for that engine.
They are located in the V under the IM. Got a round head with a bolt through the middle of them. [Sorry, unsure if you are are a mechanic or DIY'er].
Couldn't find obvious images online and mine is the FSI BVJ engine but here are some images of a A4/S4 V8.
I dont know what year or engine code these images are from but think it is about 2004- 2007 V8. Looks like four sensors on this image??
