Default MMI questions

was wondering if MMI/NAV update is covered under manufacturers warranty or not.
what changes do the update brings about. anything significant? 2004 a8L is what i have.

also wanted to know..i have a MMI UPDATE DISC...the instructions are put it in the dvd player (in the trunk) and then press and hold setup and return for 5 secs and then change menu to sft update. i got it from the net. so wanna make sure if those are the correct directions. also how long does it take to update? after the update anything special i need to do?

help would be great..thank you all in advance

NAV updates are easy to perform but the updates are not covered by warranty. The latest navigation update DVD is available from Navteq. If you downloaded an updated from the web and it was not purchased from Navteq, then buyer beware.

YES, the NAV update and MMI update are 2 totally different things. The MMI update disc is a firmware update for the MMI. The NAV update disc [versions 4, 5, 6, 2007 and now version 2008] are updated versions of the Software that displays your travel on the NAV display. Dependent on your existing firmware, certain versions of the NAV discs may not work. Hope this helps.

The MMI update is covered under warranty, and the changes are quite significant. The nav DVD is not covered under warranty though. I just had the update completed by my dealer on my 2005 A8L, and in the processs, the dealer installed the latest nav dvd which is version 7. My car had version 4, and the new MMI update required a later version DVD (version 5) which navteq no longer carries. So I ended up with version 7, and it was all done under warranty. Ask your dealer to do the update, and you will end up getting the newer DVD for your nav, as the older versions do not work with the new update. Audi has issued a TSB (posted earlier in this forum about the MMI update), and the TSB clearly mentions the required newer nav DVD version. Good luck.

pcc123, I believe you received extraordinary service which most will not receive. It is good to hear stories like this and you should share the name of your dealer with the forum.

Unfortunately, not all of us will get the same treatment.

Default How do I know if I need the update?

I have a '06 sport built in 5-06- I just installed the lastest NAV disc from Navteq and it took it with no problems- does that mean I have the latest MMI update?? I'm not sure my dealer would know if I asked him unfortunately...

The MMI Update Disc goes into slot #1 in your CD Changer not the NAv drive in the trunk. Follow the rest of the instructions and you should be alright.

Hey Charlie2_62, let me know how that installation Kit for the Xm Module works.
