Default painting hubs

Rusty hubs easily visible behind the rims. Anyone ever paint their hubs (how complicated)? Pay to have it done (how much)? Worth the trouble?

IMO not worth the trouble.. as easy as hand painting calipers, if you do paint them you'd paint them silver or black obviously. Definitely not pay to have it done.

Default I'm guessing you actually mean...

painting the brake rotor (disk) hat area. The rotor hat area covers the hub, and the hat area is what you see through the wheel spokes. Pretty easy to paint w/ spray. Best time is when rotors are new or just resurfaced and bead blasted. Easy to do when off the car, using VHT Spray in silver. Idea is to keep it clean looking, not have it stand out. Then you just wipe the swept area clean with a solvent so it doesn't get on pads. More of an approximation w/ some masking if you do it w/ them on the car, in which case a first pass w/ wire brush after getting the dust out of there helps.

Default Yup, painted the rotor 'hats'....

I did my calipers and rotor centres at the same time as swapping out my rims, to complete the 'pedicure'.

Quick going over with a wire brush on a rotary (Dremel) tool on the calipers, carriers, hats and rotor edges....

I painted the calipers with grey VHT steel grey paint (vaguely suggesting the colour of the carbon-ceramic calipers), and the rotor centres black. I didn't worry too much about masking around the rotor centres, as the swept area was cleaned of over spray by the pads.

A few judicious graphics, and Robert's your mother's brother.

Now I just need some 'proper' sized drilled rotors, but hey, it's a start, right?

I've had loads of comments on the caliper decals, they mean nothing, but seem to suggest something more....

Default Thanks...

I just searched 'caliper decals' on Ebay, and cannibalised a set of 'RS4' decals and added the rings myself, from the same source on Ebay. In fact, I think it was a UK seller if I recall. Let me know if you need their Ebay ID and I'll go back and look it up.

Here they are, they did come out pretty nice. I painted the caliper without removing it and by hand, not the spray kind. Would have achieved better results with a spray but I didn't have the technical know how to remove the calipers at the time. So here's the shots with the caliper decals I got off ebay for $5 incl. shipping.
