Practical experience re-coding features with VAG COM?
Searching the archives, the information is sketchy. Looking through things last night with a VAG-COM hooked up, I can see the same kind of soft codes and general settings as on my C5. Plus a lot of new stuff of course that wasn't around for a C5.
So far, I reset the instrument lighting so the guages are fully backlit by day (the default setting seemed to be only limited backlighting with lit needles). I also eliminated the seat belt chime (I think). Next up are trying to get the window roll down and up tied into the remote--the car setting is just to let this be done through the drivers window switch panel when the car is off. I think I see where the setting is, though how it ties into the MMI adjustability of the feature through the door window switch isn't clear from any sources I could find--RossTech's site and Wiki and open obd. I'm also going to try to get it to drop the alarm chirp and just use the lights blinking as the arming cue.
It's also clear where the trip computer gas consumption adjustment is, but so far it seems pretty accurate from measuring miles against actually gallons pumped.
Anyone on the board delved into these on the D3?
1. Coded instrument lighting to show guages (and needles) fully illuminated by day.
2. Eliminated seat belt warning chime.
New:
3. Coded window feature controlled by door drvers window switch so it also closes the windows (normal setting only opened mine). Also added sunroof to the things closed by this feature, but not opened.
4. Enabled remote to open all windows by holding down unlock button, and to close all windows and sunroof by holding down lock button
5. Deleted alarm chirp, leaving flashing lights as the signal.
##3-5 Done using the recode and adaptation features in the Central Convenience group [46] with VAG-COM. ##1 and 2 were done with a recode in the Instruments group [17].
