Default Thinking of purchasing a quick jack setup

Hi all , anyone have any experience with the quick jacks that use pneumatic cylinders to lift a scissor setup? I saw the ammo NYC YouTube videos when Larry lifts his 911 with them and I'm so jealous .

Obviously a post lift is the best usability wise but they're too big and expensive . The scissor jacks simply hide away when not in use.

Seems like a brilliant way to lift the car a couple feet in a very safe way however the cross braced setups can lift almost high enough to fit a person underneath. What do you think you lose in either case ? Cross brace might get in the way or not line up well but lifting up several feet to sit under seems really comfortable .

i have seen videos of people running into cars jacked with both setups and the car doesn't budge. So safety difference is negligible.

Anyone have any ideas of what you think is the most important features of this kind of setup? It's hard to think of the little things till you've been using something like this for a while .

I hate hate hate hate lifting with a floor jack . It's fine with 1-1 1/2 ton cars but after that I find that it becomes infinitely scarier to lift . Especially when you start having to go under the car and set the car down on jack stands.

I'd love a scissor jack too. Unlike Larry at AMMO NYC, I have no need for the jack to be portable, so I'd personally go for a one-piece, heavier duty unit than he did.

You're right, I'd discount the models with cross-braces immediately - you know that you'll eventually come across that one car where the exhaust or transmission protrudes just enough to make it impossible to lift without adding a dangerous number of rubber blocks under the car.

The features I'm looking for are:

Ramps on either side to allow it to sit on the ground, rather than have to be sunk into it.
A safety latch system that lowers the car onto physical locks so it's sturdy.
No cross-brace.
No requirement to be connected to an air compressor.
Extendable flaps on either end (especially useful with cars as long as the D3.

Indeed the only thing that puts me off is the low lift height and I worry the A8L is a bit long and the Volvo a bit short for a one size fits all . The jacks that fix these issues cost 2-3x as much . I do think it's possible to lift transversely if required so if the long 5000 or 7000 model can lift the A8L normally then I can orientate them 90* to be able to lift the P1800 or other small cars I'd be happy.

I guess to get a couple extra inches you put the car in lift and put some blocks underneath.

Default I went with the maxjax setup, 2 post

It is a nice compact 2 post setup, allegedly portable, I set mine and have left it in place. Easily lifts the TT, work well on the W12 as well. Makes oil changes almost fun, and certainly great for more surgical matters. I'm thrilled with it and with the cost being only slightly more than the scissor jack types, I think it is a great option.

I have looked at the maxjax as well however while being "portable" take up too much space while and out of operation. The quick jack can be carried by two persons and hid underneath a car and doesn't take up more space than the footprint of the car during operation.

The W12 Just fits into the garage due to the other half being a metal workshop .

For anyone with the space I think a 2 post for the garage is a no brainer and the quick jack can be a powerful portable tool in perfect world.

2 posts and scissor lifts are the best health insurance for a at home mechanic. First time they save your back or life they're paid off !
