Transmission leaking for a tiny hole
Hi everyone... I’ve been working on a 2007 Audi a8 4.2. I had to replace the tailshaft and transfer cover case. After refilling the transmission with fluid, Im getting a leak out of a tiny hole in the bottom of the transmission (see pics). The hole is located right in front of the tailshaft and in the transfer case. The hole is about a 1/2 of an inch and goes up into the transmission about 4-5 inches. At the top of the hole is a pin hole where the leak is coming from. It is part of the transmission but I have no idea why it is leaking. It will leak about 2 tablespoons of fluid a night out of the hole onto the ground. Any idea? Do you think I overfilled the transmission? I called the service department and they have never heard of this hole and really did not understand what i was talking about.

No specific knowledge, but in general...
holes like that are there for a reason. When I have come across that sort of thing, often there is a seal located above it, and the hole is used to direct the fluid out and tell you that in fact you have a leak. Look at a parts or tranny diagram to get a better sense.
Alternatively it could be an overflow port, or an air port to deal with pressure and fluid expansion changes (which becomes an overflow port if overfilled). And yes, of course you should re check fluid levels if you have refilled or topped up any and now have fluid coming out.

What would cause PS fluid to leak, i just added some but I'm afraid it might be leaking, how much $?
