Angry 2 Months in, my first bumper tap

I'm sitting at a traffic light and I feel a light jolt. Yup, another inattentive driver hit me from the rear. Her first words and she kept repeating them was "my foot was on the brake". Then she has the gall to say, "you sure that wasn't already there?" pointing to the gouge in the bumper. Urggghhhh!!! Fortunately even though she drove a piece of junk, her insurance was still valid (Allstate). I hope the parking sensor isn't damaged. I take it in tomorrow to get an estimate from Allstate.

I know it's a minor damage, but what would something like this effect future trade-in value or CPO eligibility? Do I need to consider diminished value claim?

Ouch! Sorry to see you joined the club on this. I had the same situation back in late October---young woman bumped into my rear bumper while I was stationary at a stop light. Luckily no actual damage to bumper cover (I was able to polish out the minor scuffs), but had to replace the metal trim piece that got gouged like yours...That part costs $340 alone.

Round #2---my garage did me a favor by damaging the lower rear bumper cover a few weeks ago. The rear bumper cover is actually two separate pieces (upper & lower), and the lower piece has to be replaced---that cost will be $870 including parts, paint, flex additive and labor. So nice to live in an area with high labor rates.

Good news is these are minor accidents and nobody got hurt; just breaks your heart a little.

BTW, I don't think you have to be concerned about diminished value on bumper cover repairs.

Good luck, and get that car back to looking the way it should soon :^)

Thanks,

I got the car back from the shop yesterday. It came to $1,500, but fortunately, just all cosmetic damage. I got the work done at Wagonworks. They did an excellent job.

That is truly amazing - the $ differences/variances by location. Last month, same situation but entire rear bumper, trim, and sensors replaced for a total of $2,200. This was in Scottsdale with one of the Penske owned dealers. Enquiring minds want to know how/why. BTW, driven around town last week in NY in one of the Essex House new A8L (they switched from Merc 550 last year). Funny to note that drivers complained of same German sense of humor re electrical problems and mysterious quirks.

My bumper was repaired, not replaced and my sensors were fine, so they didn't need replacement.

THAT was my point - I had far more extensive parts and labor for only $700 more than your repair - I can't imagine your bill if you had a similar full replacement.
