Default 2013 A8 & A8L 4.0T V8 Order Guide

While not officially announced to the press, attached is what dealers received for pre-allocation ordering for the A8 and A8L 4.0T V8...It's 420-hp twin-turbo with cylinder on demand (with active noise cancelling technology), plus trapezoidal exhausts. Essentially the same motor as the S6 and S7.

There's a Sport Design package that's essentially the Comfort package plus sports seats and 20" 5-spoke wheels w/all-season tires. The Sports Plus package requires the Sports Design package, and adds adaptive sports suspension, sport differential, dynamic steering, and summer performance tires. (Editorial note: Bummer...I love the rear sports differential and dynamic steering on my car, but now would have to order the Sports Plus setup, which IMO is not needed).
Looks like Balao Brown is available w/o the design select package on the LWB.

Funny.

I like the sports+ package and don't like a single aspect of the required sports design package that must be ordered in conjunction.

Default Good & Bad

I like the addition of the top-view camera system. Not sure what a high-beam assistant is though. Maybe turns off high beams automatically?

I'm not so sure I like the Trapezoidal exhaust outlets. It says they are standard on the NWB - I wonder if they are on the whole lineup now? (Previously only available on the 500HP model.)

Yes, high beam assistant automatically turns off high beams when cars approach, and also when cars are directly ahead. Trapezoidal exhaust outlets are standard on both 4.0T NWB and LWB---not available on 3.0T models.

Looks like an optimal combination of power and options to me. Will be interesting to see the pricing of a NWB with the Sport Design and Sport plus packages with the usual few other options relative the the truly impressive S8. Audi has definitely stepped up relative to the S Class and 7 Series. It will be interesting to see if the usual S Class and 7 Series buyers will notice what Audi has done with the 2013 A8.

I am very anxious to see the price of the new A8 in a V8 Twin Turbo. When i spoke with Bradley Hollister (for those who know who Bradley is) he mentioned special ordering interior code for a NWB, he mentioned the new V6 SC for the A8 (the same exact engine as my S4) and the V6 TDI. But he did not mention a V8 of any sort. I think AUDI perhaps has reconsidered a V8 in an A8 due to demand but thats just a guess, I could be wrong. My only concern is what will that do to the pricing? Will an A8 V8 Turbo, with the cyl on demand, stop start technology, now be a 100K car?

Any idea when pricing will be available?

My impression is that AoA wants to keep the new V8 for the A8 quiet for the moment---too much 4.2 V8 D4 inventory to clear out right now---dealers provided order guide for purposes of ordering color & option combos for demos/early inventory at this point; not for taking customer orders. I imagine they'll have to keep the price point in line with where BMW's 750 is---or a tad below. Here's my guess: Take 2012 4.2 V8 base pricing and bump it by $6K to $8K---at the upper level takes A8 NWB to $86,750 (2012 BWM 750i Xdrive is $87,300); A8 LWB to $92,700 (2012 BMW 750Li Xdrive is $91,200). We shall see...But I think AoA will have to keep the base price somewhat lower than 750 X-Drive pricing.

The inventory theory makes seese. I know when I spoke with my dealer 4 weeks ago he said no way will I be able to order a 2012 and then said in about 10 days he would have 2013 pricing. Still no pricing from him though. Perhaps AUDI also wants to be able to release all the 2013 engine options in 1 guide before taking orders rather than have one engine ready to order now, , than anothee engine option announced 30 days from now etc. (I think we will have 3 engine options) I know that right now on the AUID Site, only the V6 SC engine is revealed for the 2013 A8

I assume you mean the V8 Turbo and not the V6 SC engine. Thats close to a $100K car easy with a couple of decent options and well over $100K OTD, even on a decent trade.

I wonder what kind of price desparity there will be between the V8 Turbo and V6 SC?

Yes of course the V8. Just look at the 740 xdive pricing for an idea of where the A8 3.0T should approximately be.
