19,000 Smile service.
Just had the 19,000 mile service cost £188.62 GBP or $252.13 for that I got,
7 litrs Engine oil + flter + 1 ltr top up in a handy holder for the trunk, new pollen filter, all fluids topped up + checked. + full car health check, test drive and a full wash and valet.
+
1 can of coke
1 chocolate brownie
1 hot chocolate
1 Apple
1 Coffee
Use of the executive lounge with wifi, dress code was relaxed ( shorts are permitted ) I wouldn't want to offend a working executive with my hairy legs,
2 hour while you wait appointment.
Have I been robbed.

If you are willing to do some of your own service you will save about 70% over the dealer. But it of course requires more work. I personally like K&N and have never had issues but I know some do. Most of the time the issues come from users over-oiling the filter and it can foul the MAF if the car has one. I use it for my engine air filter and just clean / re-oil myself. Anyway, if you are out of warranty or just want to save money I would do some the basic stuff yourself. I'm under a CPO and do my own oil and filters, battery, brakes, etc. Helps you learn the car and promotes better preventive maintenance habits imo. Besides your time it only cost about $60 to change your own oil.
Prices I am finding -
10 quarts of mobile 1 EP formula is $45
Oil filter about $14
Cabin filters are about $15
Engine air filters are around $25 - 70 depending on type.

You must be in cheap part of the country. Invoice for first S8 service in Surrey was £680 however that included spark plugs change requested by leasing company. Still, even without it, it was expensive but it was included in service package I bought with the car. I did mine at 17000miles. When asked about the cost of 3.0TDI service, I was told £499 for first one and £499 for second one. London prices ;-) Liverpool told me it's £250 for oil service. Again, bought 3 years service plan for £350 so I don't have to look for cheapest service.

Its very cheap here up north, but then again deals can be done all over the county, I picked this up from down your way did a great deal at Patek New Bond Street last year, but it took 3 years to arrive I ordered it in 2014.
