1994 A6 2.8E FUEL TANK LEAK

1994 A6 2.8E FUEL TANK LEAK
Can any please help. I have a 1994 A6 2.8E with a fuel tank leak. She only leaks when the tank is filled. The leaking forms a puddle right below the tank.
Since she started doing that I stopped filling the tank to full - I would say I fill it to ±80% to avoid leaking.
I thought there might be a o-ring at the top cover that needs replacing but after having a look i could not figure out how to open the tank at the top. Or can it be a pipe? I saw no signs of any corrupt pipe.
Assistance will be much appreciated.
