Default Avant Antenna

I have a 1996 A6 Avant Frontrac and a 1997 A6 Avant Quattro. The antenna on one is gone (somebody ripped it off) and the other one is looking pretty bad. So, I went on line and tried to order replacements. I received part number 3A0 051 849. This antenna does not fit. The screw is too small where it screws into the base on the roof of the Avant. I have looked pretty hard on the web for the correct part and cant find it.

Anyone have a source for new antennas that fit? Is replacing the base an option? Maybe use a VW part base? Looks pretty simple..pop out the dome light in the rear, unscrep the antenna wire and the base nut...replace in reverse with new base unit.

Thanks for the help.

Dennis

Hey Dennis

I had the same problem trying to find a replacement antenna for my 94 Avant, mine was sun rotted. Local shop to me is http://maximilianmotorsports.com/ and he sold me a non oem that screwed right in stubby at 4"and extended at 11" worked well then it got bent some how. About to buy another and I found a good oem at a bone yard for $15 if that. I think Max gets them from this place http://www.jom.de/advanced_search_re...ntenna&x=0&y=0 ran me $36.00 from Max. Part number is 20576 hope this helps.

Cheers

Brian

I'm in the same boat. Your car must've had the factory car phone so the antenna port is 5mm instead of 4mm (IIRC). I replaced it once 7 years ago with a junkyard replacement which is now pretty much worn out, but those are getting very hard to find in decent shape.

Let me know if you find a good solution.

The avant takes a 6mm antenna. Here's where I got mine earlier this summer. OE part. Works great.
