Default Best way to clean/degrease my engine?

Now that its nice out and I drive with my windows down I can smell all the grease and grime that has built up on my engine over the years as it gets hot. I want to spray it down top and bottom (on the heavy spots at least) with engine degreaser and then wash it off with a garden hose.

And yes I do have a few minor leaks here and there, no big deal, but I also hope this may show me where they are.

Does this sound like a good idea? Any better solutions and please no one say keep my windows up

Default Ah, I remember this post. I was just making sure I wouldn't get water in anything and damage the

engine.

Cover up the wire harnesses you can see and don't spray water directly on them.

Default Dont pressure wash !

I did the mistake of doing that last year, I did covere the electrical components but still water will get to broken insulation on harnesses , and many other places you dont want water . I would Wipe clean with hot water and degreaser , dont use so much degreaser and make sure you wipe all of it of , the smell of it burning is really nasty . Good luck!

Default If you can smell "grease and grime" Something is leaking.

Wash the engine with Gunk or Simple Green or something, then look for the leak. Got Quat? Start looking for the leak at the tailshaft seal on the trans.

Default I power wash just the lower areas after hitting them with Simple Green.

Anything up top, I do with carb cleaner and put some cardboard underneath to catch all the crud.
