I have brought my car to mechanic and asked to chaneg the diffirential fluid (as a part of 90K service). He told me, that Audi uses synthetic fluid and we shuld not change it. He just promised to check it for leaks.

My mechanic said 45k, or 60k ... but I'm going to go with the lifetime theme probably ...
Because nowhere did I hear about the need to change it before they <i>checked it</i> ... and it's not in any of the books.

most self respecting audi geeks will tell you that the fuids are the lifeblood of the car. they are right. everone knows you have to change oil, coolant, brake fluid, hydraulic, transmission fluids at regular intervals. changing the diff fluid is not going to HURT, for pity's sake! if you like your mechanic, talk nicely to him about how you want the diff fluid changed anyway, and use redline fluids in both diffs and transmission. 100,000 miles later, you will be securely glad you did. my opinion.
