diff switch

Can someone tell me what the "diff" switch on the centre conslole of the 95 A6QA does?

locks rear differential ...only up to 25mph though

Locks the rear differential, if you're really stuck on ice and Quattro ain't doing it for you. Caution- ABS brakes are disarmed in this mode, and it is only meant to help you get going if you're really stuck, i.e., it automatically switches off once the car gets moving.
