Default Green light on in dash and no idea what it stands for !!

1995 Audi a6 non quattro. A green light popped up on my dash this morning as i drove into work and it's the one to the right of the Air bag light. The manual does not say what it is. Does anyone out there know. The symbol kinda resemble flashing lights pointing to the left and right.

Anyone please.. Thanks ***** Will

Default How long have you owned the car?

That bulb is blank in my car too...

Does your check engine light work when the car is started up, I mean does it light up when the key is in the on position but the engine has not been started? If not (and that green light does what I stated before), It's possible someone didn't put a lamp back in the correct spot. I think there are three lights that work on that part of the console. The airbag light, the check engine light, and one more (I think) but I forget what it is.

If you just bought the car I would bet that someone put the light there to mask the check engine light, and if you've had the car for a long time then someone probably mistakenly did it.

I don't mean to worry you about your check engine light, I mean, i could be completely wrong.

Default I think you may be mistaken. To the left of the air bag light are two arrows pointing out on a green

background...at least on my car. It's a 1997 A6.

As I recall the lights starting from left to right are :

1. 4 way flasher (2 arrows pointing outward, green background)
2. Air bag warning light, red background.
3. Check engine light, lighting bolt going thru and engine (amber backbround).
4. Seat belt warning light, torso with belt (red background).

My car only has the air bag, engine check and seat belt lights. If I remove the dash there are color coded light bulb holes and matching colored tape on the three bulb bases.

and that's all I remmember, be it correct or incorrect.

Could be a misinstalled bulb for another slot. My manual shows CEL to right of air bag.

Default ***** Will, do you have the auto check system?

The green light could be a throw back to pre auto check? Or if deletion of auto check was an option in some places would (could) the cars have these additional lights to perform the same functions?

A friend of mine has a '93 MB 190 and he has the individual little indicator lamps for blown lights, worn brakes, oil pressure, etc, etc

Just an idea

Not sure what the auto check system is. I have owned the car for about 3 years now but have never seen that light turn on. I just hope that it's nothing serious. From one of the other posts it shows up as and indicator light being out..

Default Re: How long have you owned the car?

I have owned the car for almost 3 years now and I am the second owner and have never had any problems with it. I don't think i've ever even had to change a bulb in the car. The light popped up on my way to work and i always feel as though the cold weather has to do with sensors not working correctly because the light did go away and has not yet turned on again. I will check my lights tomorrow and see..
