Default Problems, Problems

Dear Audi afficianados:

I am a "new" Audi owner. It is a beautiful red Audi 100 S Station Wagon 1994. I have a few questions that I was hoping you would help me with.

(1) When I lock the car. The light on the radio begins to blink. I know that is normal. However, I also notice that my hazard light blinks as well. Does this mean something?

(2) Where can I get a cigarette lighter and interior bulbs for Audi? Both of these are missing in my car.

(3) My stereo's rear speakers do not work. The tweeter works, but not the woofer. I called the Audi dealer in my area and they told me the rear speakers cost $500 for the pair. Is there a less expensive option? Do you know someone that can fix those old speakers?

Thanks for all your help.

1) Alarm armed.

2) Bulbs don't usually break the bank at the dealer, but I don't have part numbers or alternative numbers for other sources.

3) I don't have much info on the speakers, or know much about them.

Welcome. =)

I, too, have a 94 100S wagon, and offer the following:

(2) Are bulbs in the dash? If so, I'll guess outside temperature and shift indicator. Conduct a search and there's tons of info on it. Expensive to fix at dealer. You can DIY or ignore (as I have done...)

(3) Rear speakers might be fine. Go to an audi parts department and ask for a rebuilt head unit ($100). They should loan you the tool to remove. Make sure you test the unit before you buy. If rear speakers still don't work, you may have a bigger problem. These are funky speakers w/an amp built in. You can't just replace the speakers at a car stereo store.

Good luck and enjoy. Rest assured you ride in tremendous comfort at 75 mph w/ a very full load all day. (which is how long it will take you to get up to that speed)

I have a 93 100CS Quattro sedan, my car has the factory alarm and keyless entry, but nothing flashes, that sucks. I think its neat that your hazard light flashes on the dash, maybe I could wire that up when I put in an aftermarket alarm, it would keep everything factory look.

In my car I have Kenwood Excelon 5 1/4" up front and Kenwood Excelon 6x9's in the rear deck (not sure where the speakers are in your wagon in the rear) And mine have just been rewired, had the wiring ran under the carpet up under the dash and wired into my Kenwood CD player. The fronts have also been rewired directly to the cd player. I'm sure any good stereo shop in your area could sell you a new head unit, new speakers, and if you tell them to rewire it for you they can do that too. It would probably be cheaper than replacing a factory amp or speaker set. It would also sound better. Try to remove the lower speakers and make sure they aren't just disconnected at the woofer first, thats the cheapest option. But otherwise I personally would recommend going aftermarket. I've never been a big fan of factory stereo equipment. Even the BOSE system has room for improvement. Call me an audiophile if you will but I like to customize my cars audio system. I also have the urge to tweak its performance as well. I can't leave anything stock!! I find I am a true gear head LOL. Good luck with it.

I know, and yes my 4-ways work, but the light doesn't flash when my alarm is on.

Thank you very much guys. I really appreciate your comments.

I think the flashing hazard generated the most discussion. All I can say is that both the stereo light and the hazard light flash continually, but alternating the whole time the car is locked. I will ignore it from now on because the consensus seems to be either thats the way it is supposed to be or its gremlins.

I will head to a parts supply store first thing in the morning. I will also keep you posted on the speaker dilemma (especially if it is something interesting).

Cheers all!
