pulling codes with climate control

pulling codes with climate control
I have seen a chart on here somewhere listing the engine fault codes that can be displayed on my climate control. However, I am not sure what buttons to push to make the codes display.
Is there a FAQ out there?
Now that it's running, i'm getting a check engine light but only when idling for a while. I'm thinking it is not the egr, cause that is only supposed to open after you go to a certain speed. my lights comes on and off randomly while it is idleing. I thought i might have hoses on wrong, but they seem right.
Sucking on egr hose does open it up and car wants to stall, so that tells me that is ok.
any help on pulling the codes through cc appreciated.
