Squealing from Engine

My 95 A6 often makes squealing noises and I am hoping that some of you might know what the problem might be. The noise occurs when I am driving and take my foot off the acclerator and the engine is at 1000-2000 RPM. If I apply a little gas during this time, the sound goes away but comes back immediately when the car is coasting with an RPM of 1000-2000. The noise is definitely comming from the engine.

Also, this summer I had the timing and serpantine belts replaced as well as the water pump and thermostat.

Airconditioning compressor or clutch...

make sure AC compressor is off, see if you still have problem. If so, remove the serpentine belt, drive the car and see if you still have the problem. That will identify or exclude a good many possibilities.

Sounds like a vacuum valve or something?

Could be a vacuum leak, belt, or AC compressor/clutch...

Take your top engine cover off with the car adling... you'll know if it's the vacuum hose (runs from the brake booster into the engine). Push on the hose in various places... you might be able to plug it up with electrical tape.
